Increasing Dementia awareness in Middlesbrough

Funded by Comic Relief’s Sport for Change, we are delivering free chair dance classes and reminiscence activities for people living with dementia. We will also be offering weekly dance/fitness classes for communities across Middlesbrough, followed by a dementia friends session, once a month for those that want to learn more about dementia. We are very passionate about increasing dementia awareness in the community, and hope these classes will enhance positivity for those living with dementia.

Rheannon Davies, who is managing the project, said “I’m extremely excited to start the project as each class will be different and every person involved is unique. I’m ready to help and support as many people as possible, whilst also learning new things myself throughout the process.”

Multiple organisations and care homes took part in reminiscence activities and a chair dance class at the project launch event.

Brian, a dementia friends champion who also attended the event, said “I think it’s fantastic what the company is doing. There should be more things like this for people living with dementia. It’s also important to support those who have family members or friends with dementia. It’s a great opportunity”.

All are welcome to attend the classes. If you would like to get involved, please contact us for more information.
