Tackling Mental Health through Physical Activity

Over the past several months Nouveau Wellbeing have been working to “Get Girls Moving!”, tackling mental health issues and depression. We have been combatting these mental health issues by encouraging a healthy work life balance, looking at preventing stress and giving participants the tools to reduce anxiety.

As the project continues we have partnered up with Willow Fields Community Primary School, Witherwack to run Family Fitness, an after school club for both children and parents to enjoy. The class has been able to break down barriers such as finding child care whilst exercising. The sessions include a number of: games, races and strengthening exercises for all to enjoy.

In addition to Family Fitness we are providing a Pilates session within the area. The NHS Choices website expresses how: “Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing.”

Gabriella, who is heading the project says “Its been really great that we have  managed to engage with children as well as adults within the project working together in to improve overall wellbeing.”
