At Nuvo Wellbeing, we see every week how movement can transform not just physical health, but confidence, independence, and connection.
Hughie, aged 90, began attending our yogalates sessions at the Pelaw Centre after noticing a gradual decline in his mobility and confidence within his walking group. His personal goal was simple but powerful: to improve strength, maintain his independence, and stay actively involved in community life.
A supported start through the Happiness Hub
The sessions Hughie joined were originally funded through the PCP Happiness Hub programme, an initiative designed to reduce isolation and support older adults to stay connected, active, and well within their communities. This funding helped us bring accessible, inclusive movement sessions to people who may otherwise have faced barriers to participation.
10 weeks of impact
After just 10 weeks of attending weekly yogalates sessions, Hughie experienced meaningful changes in both his physical ability and overall confidence:
Improved physical strength and mobility
Increased confidence in movement and group participation
Progressed from walking at the back of his walking group to leading from the front
Established a consistent home exercise routine
Beyond the physical improvements, Hughie also highlighted something just as important: the social and emotional impact of the sessions. He described the group as a safe, friendly, and welcoming space where he felt supported, connected, and encouraged to keep going.
Participant voice
“Thanks to Millie’s class I am enjoying life to the full.”
Continuing the journey
Following the success of the funded programme, yogalates at Pelaw Centre now continues as a weekly community session, open to all abilities. The class is delivered in a relaxed, inclusive environment designed to support strength, posture, balance, and overall wellbeing.
Sessions are just £4 and can be booked directly through our website. www.nuvowellbeing.com/book-now
