N-Dance Trimdon: Empowering Young People Through Dance

Project Overview
N-Dance Trimdon, led by Nuvo Wellbeing, has successfully delivered a two-year dance programme for young people in Trimdon Grange. Funded by Durham County Council, the project provided weekly sessions designed to improve physical and mental wellbeing, confidence, and personal development.

The Challenge
Many young people in the community face barriers to participating in arts and sports activities, including limited local opportunities. N-Dance Trimdon was designed to break down these barriers, providing high-quality dance coaching that is inclusive, supportive, and accessible.

What We Did
Over the funded period, 20 children and young people regularly attended sessions, completing Bronze Awards and progressing towards Silver, with a structured focus on skill development, teamwork, and self-expression.

The project included:

  • Lived Experience Workshops covering mental health, physical wellbeing, career opportunities, and community impact
  • Performance opportunities including 2 showcases, 2 Armed Forces Day events, 2 local community performances, 1 AGM meeting, 1 Dance 4 Life event, and numerous professionally recorded online videos
  • Volunteering and work experience, allowing older participants to assist with warm-ups, cool-downs, and showcase support

Impact
The outcomes speak for themselves:

  • 100% of participants improved skills and confidence
  • 97% are more physically active
  • 80% have taken part in school arts and dance programmes
  • Older participants gained leadership experience and practical skills through volunteering
  • Families and the wider community engaged in performances, strengthening community pride

Participant Testimonial
“I never thought I’d be confident enough to perform, but N-Dance helped me feel proud of what I can do. I’ve even joined my school drama school now!” – Project Participant

Conclusion
N-Dance Trimdon has empowered young people, built resilience, and strengthened community connections. The programme demonstrates that creative opportunities can transform lives, and with continued support, it will continue to inspire confidence, aspiration, and pride in Trimdon’s young people for years to come.
