With the 6 weeks summer holiday fast approaching, there will be a lot of parents out there panicking about how they will keep their kids entertained in those seemingly never-ending weeks. But panic no more! We’ve come to the rescue!
The Nouveau team have been doing some research on all the best local days out, so that you don’t have to! Just read this blog post and voila! You have a summer to do list ready made for you!
Jarrow Hall
Our first gem is Jarrow Hall. An Anglo-Saxon farm, Village and Bede Museum in South Tyneside.
Jarrow Hall has it all! From indoor play areas, dressing up, animal feeding, replica Anglo-Saxon village, café and a park next to the museum, you won’t want to leave!
Day tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for under 15s, so it wont hurt your bank balance either!
Alnwick Castle
Alnwick is known for its beautiful gardens with its infamous treehouse and poisonous garden, but have you paid a visit to the Castle?
The Castle, a setting you might recognise from the Harry Potter film series (where David and Victoria Beckham tied the knot), offers a fun day out too! You and your kids can get involved in broomstick training just like in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone! It’s a great opportunity for some fun pictures and it’s included in admission price!
The tickets to visit are cheaper to buy online, so being prepared is really worth it! Online admission prices for are £25.56 for adults, £11 for ages 5-16 and under 5s go free!
Plessey Woods
If you’re after a cheaper day out then we recommend Plessey Woods.
It’s a country park in Northumberland that’s free to use. Hidden amongst the trees you might find fairy and troll doors, an ogre swamp, or drum kits to play on. There’s also a play area and picnic spaces, so it has all the makings for a perfect day… if you go when the weather’s nice!
The Great North Museum
Maybe it’s raining? Why not try The Great North Museum in Newcastle. From Dinosaur fossils and animals to Roman and Greek artifacts, there is something here that will interest everyone… and it’s free to enter! There’s also a café if you get hungry, but we recommend heading across the road to Quilliam’s Tea Rooms, a cosy little café that’s open late and even plays films on a large projector!
Blue Reef Aquarium
Another suggestion we have for a rainy day is Blue Reef Aquarium in North Tyneside. From tropical fish to glow in the dark jelly fish, animals and seals too! A standard ticket costs £10.95 for adults and £8.50 for ages 3-12, but there are lots of other deals for students, seniors and family discounts which are all on their website!
So there you have 5 of our recommended family day’s out for this summer! Let us know if you pay any a visit, we’d love to know what you think!
